Covid-19 Update

In a country as vast as India it is hard to summarise but months on, the pandemic continues to spike in many areas. However, in the community where the children live, none of the families have so far contracted the virus. This is good news, especially given the difficulties with social distancing and the wearing of masks. Most of the parents are also working again, selling fruit, cleaning and so on. The panicky situation where food was short appears to have passed.

Punjab schools have not reopened, so Bright Sparks students are currently doing work set by their teachers, at home. Once a week the staff meet with one or two classes to monitor and encourage. They also speak on the phone with children who have questions about the work. At the start of September, the local government will look again at whether schools can resume.
