Snoods: a Christmas carol

From time to time, someone turns the ordinary into something extra-ordinary. A few years ago a complete stranger shaved his head and raised a significant amount for Bright Sparks. And just this September, a wild-swimmer friend on Anglesey, Meg Marsden, announced she was going to knit to raise funds for the school.

Hats and fingerless mitts and later on snoods started to appear and were quickly snapped up. Meg not only made, but modelled and marketed them too. A different wild-swimming group down the Welsh coast caught on and began to buy. Soon, orders were piling in – and Meg was knitting at every available opportunity. At the beach. At traffic lights.  Her fingers hurt! Another knitting friend joined in to help.

Swimmers and rowers, film club and yoga class members, friends and neighbours all contributed in exchange for the woolly warmers. Combined with other monies donated, and some raised by hand-printing cards, an amazing total of £1000 has so far been collected.

So it’s a big thank you to ‘fingerless’ Meg for her knitting odyssey, and to everyone who bought from her.  Individual initiatives like these are deeply touching and inspirational. In truth, the kindness of strangers has provided for Bright Sparks children from the very start. So thank you too, to all who quietly donate to our charity, past, present and to come.  It is so appreciated.

A very VERY happy Christmas to you all.
